Klitschko Unanimously Over Jennings At MSG
Wladimir Klitschko (61-3 53 KO) successfully defended his title for the eighteenth time with a unanimous decision win over undefeated challenger Bryant Jennings (19-1 10 KO).
The judges score cards were as follows, 116-111 X2, and a ridiculous 118-109.
Dr. Steelhammer was pushed harder in this fight than he has been in some time but a consistent jab allowed him to control the majority of most of the rounds.
As it was highly publicised that the Jennings Team would do, they made a point to make sure that Klitschko was watched and/or penalized for excessive holding.
Referee Michael Griffin was all over the champion from the opening bell with repeated warnings for holding. Some were warranted but some were not as the shorter Jennings would go in low causing the taller Klitschko to collapse over the top of him and hold him as a result. Griffin eventually deducted a point from the champ in the tenth.
Jennings had moments in the bout which he created by using his lateral moment and a disciplined attack to the body. “By-By” was able to keep the champ honest by landing a mixture of overhand and straight rights and lefts throughout the fight. Although Jennings lost, he actually won the respect of not only the champion but made a few new fans as well.
“As a champion, I have to say that I’m the bad man,” Klitschko said. “The baddest man on the planet.”
Tyson Fury may be next for Klitschko as he is the WBO mandatory.
Klitschko is closing in on history as he is now a win away from tying Larry Holmes’ record of 19 title defenses; however, he would still be several away from Joe Louis’ 25.

Hey Bud….Crawford Stops Dulorme In 6
There was a tornado warning in Arlington, Texas on Saturday night and although the weather reportedly was a non event, a storm of another kind wreaked havoc at the University of Texas in the sixth round during a world title fight.
Omaha, Nebraska’s Terence “Bud” Crawford (26-0 18 KO) stopped Thomas Dulorme (22-2 14 KO) by technical knockout at 1:51 of the 6th round and captured the vacant WBO junior welterweight title.
Crawford looked a bit unlike the 2014 Fighter of The Year early for most of the first five rounds but that was all part of his master plan. Dulorme most likely won at least four of those rounds by utilizing an active jab which allowed him to control the distance and turn Crawford exclusively in to a counter puncher. Crawford looked to be surprised by Dulorme’s speed but looks can be deceiving, Crawford was actually gauging his opponents timing and movement while giving him false confidence and drawing him further into his trap.
About thirty seconds into the sixth round, Crawford unveiled his strategic plan as he lured Dulorme in just as he had in the first five rounds and landed a left jab followed by a straight right wobbling Dulorme into the ropes. Crawford then attacked his opponent landing a blistering combination causing Dulorme to take a knee. Dulorme was up at the count of eight as Crawford unleashed a barrage of punches culminating with another straight right to drop Dulorme again at the two minute mark. Dulorme was up quickly and took a standing eight count. As the fight ensued, Crawford closed the show cool, calm, and collective landing both high and low with precise accuracy causing Dulorme to fold under the pressure and once again, drop to a knee as referee Rafael Ramos jumped in and stopped the fight.
After the fight, Crawford explained his game plan to HBO’s Max Kellerman,
“My coaches told me to do that (not be overly active early and give up rounds), Saul told me, when I go out there, don’t give him it yet, just touch him, just touch him, don’t let him feel it yet, then as you can see, in that sixth round, he told me to pick it up, he said pick it up, I said alright!”“That’s what we practiced on, touching him, touching him, making him feel like..aw, this guy ain’t got nothing, kind of will him to sleep”
Crawford stated after the fight than he thought he had a hell of a performance, felt strong at his new weight, and that he considers his style to be very versatile. “Bud” seems to get better with every outing always showing a new wrinkle to his game. In a fight he appeared to be losing, he was actually winning because he was sticking to the plan that was built for success and tailored to his opponent. It takes a great amount of restraint and discipline to be able to hold back but that’s what true champions do, execute all phases at the highest of levels.
Crawford is now a two time world champion in his second weight class and there are a slew of great fights out there for this rising pound for pound great not only here but north as well. If a few of those fights can be made this year and he is successful we may just see the Fighter of The Year trophy on his mantle have 2015 inscribed right below 2014.

Detroit Rising, Tony Harrison’s Journey Continues With Another Stoppage Win
Junior middleweight rising prospect Tony “Super Bad” Harrison (21-0 17 KO) extended his stoppage streak to ten defeating Pablo “Sepulturero” Munguia (20-7 11 KO) by third round TKO on Friday Night Fights from the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Munguia was game from the opening bell, moving forward and having some success in landing overhand punches on the taller Harrision; however, the difference in skill set was a mismatch. Towards the end of the second round, Harrison landed a short crisp right which floored Munguia and had him visibly wobbled. Munguia made it to his feet and survived to the bell. It was evident the end was near. Harrison attacked a still hurt Munguia to open round three landing multiple shots causing referee Arthur Mercante Jr. to stop the fight.
Some wound have preferred to see the Kronk Gym product fighting a higher caliber of opponent but that is the beauty of bringing a young highly skilled fighter along at the right pace, you simply don’t have to rush.
Munguia is not your typical opponent but is a gatekeeper of sorts to provide Harrison and his Team another opportunity to gauge how they handle every type of style before moving on to a higher quality of opposition. The “Gravedigger” has an approach that was no doubt forged from the repetitive motions of his job outside of boxing
Munguia is used to working in confined spaces while digging graves. He employed that strategy against Harrison moving underneath his reach and putting himself in the “hole” of Harrison’s guard. Further, when you are excavating dirt, you throw it out of the hole by moving the shovel overhead, a similar motion while throwing overhand punches. Munguia tried his best to align his job with his craft.

“He’s definitely one tough cookie but I had to sit down with him to let him know you can’t just walk me down, we can make it this type of fight all night long”
“He was gaining a little courage, so you know me being the warrior that I am, it was time to sit down with him, I can’t keep letting him gain momentum, take some to give some, I know I’m the harder puncher and that’s what happens”
Harrison attacked the body of his shorter and less fit opponent from the opening bell while landing right hand power shots although his usually active jab was nonexistent. Although Munguia’s awkward style contributed to Harrison getting hit more solidly than he has in the past, the defensive component of his game will need to be addressed going forward.
After the fight, Harrision spoke about his body work, lack of jab, and his defense:
“We worked on going to the body all camp, when you get in front of him, he’s definitely a lot shorter, then what the pads look like”
“Tonight means nothing, it’s over with, I did what I was supposed to do against a veteran, a tough cookie who nobody stopped within the last fifteen fights, that says a lot about me, a lot of these guys are getting the same kind of opponents and going ten rounds with them, twelve rounds with them, I did it in three. We definitely have a lot to work on, we got hit a little bit too much, you know just being lazy and not wanting to use my jab, like I said, we did what we’re suppose to do, I don’t let anybody back me up, at the end of the day, we going to make it a fight, let’s make it that.”
Harrison on what is next,
“Al Haymon has the blue print to the car, my dad, he’s driving the car, me and my team are just riding in it and I’m the machine, I’m going to get on the phone with Al Haymon and see what he has next, hopefully he has good plans for me, I’m knocking everything in front of me out, even though I’m getting hit, I’m giving the fans what they want to see”
Harrison is ranked #12 by the IBF and will no doubt be on the move throughout the alphabet soup. Perhaps bouts against the likes of a Vanes Martirosyan, Austin Trout, or a Carlos Molina will be in his immediate future?
Don’t criticize the choice of opponent here, there are lessons learned from every outing. The Detroit fighter with the superstar potential and dazzling skills did what he was supposed to do. Like a player moving through levels in a video game, he defeated the boss on this level and will now move on his journey to the next where another boss awaits, hopefully one residing in the top ten bringing out the best we’ve yet to see from “Super Bad”.

ROBERT & CASEY GUERRERO JOIN ARKANSAS TECH AND BE THE MATCH IN EFFORT TO BREAK WORLD RECORD FOR BONE MARROW REGISTRIES
RUSSELLVILLE, ARKANSAS (April 13, 2015 – Six-Time and Four-Division World Champion, Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero and BeTheMatch.org in an effort to break the world record for bone marrow registries in a 24-hour period. In addition, the group will attempt to break the 1-hour world record for registries as well. Arkansas Tech’s Be The Match bone marrow registry event will begin at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, and continue through 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, on the university’s campus.
Joining “The Ghost” will be his wife, Casey Guerrero, who is a cancer survivor and a recipient of a bone marrow transplant from the BeTheMatch.org(National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP). Together they will inspire everyone on campus and help students register while relaying the important message of being a donor.
“What an honor to be invited to this great event put on by Arkansas Tech University and BeTheMatch.org,” said Robert Guerrero. “Casey and I are going to do our part to help register as many people as possible. I really believe we are going to break the records. Many lives will be saved and that brings me great pleasure. I’m super motivated and can’t wait to get on campus and go to work.”
Dr. Jason Warnick, associate professor of psychology, and Dr. Julie Mikles-Schluterman, associate professor of sociology, are spearheading the drive at Arkansas Tech.
“Registering with Be The Match is a quick and painless experience,” said Dr. Jason Warnick. “There is a small amount of paperwork to complete, a cheek swab and then you are done. In all, the process takes about 10 minutes. It is amazing to think that such a small investment of time and effort on our part could lead to saving the life of another human being.”
The first 3,000 individuals who register with Be The Match during the 24-hour drive at Arkansas Tech will receive a free T-shirt courtesy of the Arkansas Tech Student Government Association.
Be The Match registry drives focus on individuals age 18-44 due to medical research that indicates that age group is most likely to provide a successful bone marrow transplant. Be The Match registration is free for individuals age 18-44.
Individuals age 45-60 may register with Be The Match at http://www.bethematch.org with a donation of $100.

Garcia By Majority Decision Over Peterson, Lee-Quillin Battle To A Split Draw
Lamont Peterson (33-3-1 17 KO) almost had a perfect game plan on Saturday night from Brooklyn, almost. Peterson lost to Danny Garcia (30-0 17 KO) by majority decision, 115-113 X2 and 114-114; however, we may have seen a different outcome had Peterson been a bit more active in the early rounds.
I saw what you did Peterson, I saw the game plan, it took a few moments but it became clear. Give away rounds early, frustrate and wear down Garcia, come on late and apply pressure, Garcia will fade.
Fact is, Garcia did fade and looked almost befuddled in the championship rounds but it was the early rounds that did Peterson in. Peterson stayed away so much early that Garcia had to stop in his tracks pound his gloves and motion him to fight. Garcia was frustrated throughout the fight as Peterson moved away utilizing the steps of a dancer, looked away not respecting what may be coming his way, shuffled his feet, and faked bolo punches.
Garcia was the rightful winner if only by the slightest of margins. The fight was Peterson’s had he chosen to begin his plan a bit sooner.

Lee-Quillin
The co-feature on the Garcia-Peterson card was a hotly contested middleweight donnybrook between Andy Lee (36-2-1 24 KO) and Peter Quillin (31-0-1 22 KO) which resulted in a split draw, 113-113, 113-112 Lee, 113-112 Quillin.
Early, Quillin was landing solid shots coming out of an extremely tight guard. Towards the end of the first, he dropped Lee with an overhand right. Lee wobbled to his feet as Quillen moved in for the kill buckling Lee again with a left as the bell sounded.
Lee recovered enough to have a competitive second but was dropped again in the third; however, as usually happens between a southpaw and orthodox fighter, their feet being tangled may have contributed to Lee hitting the canvas.
Over the next three rounds, both fighters were giving as good as they were getting. In the seventh, Lee dropped Quillin for the first time in his career with right hook. Quillin wasn’t overly hurt by the shot and fought to the bell.
For the remainder of the fight, there were a lot of close rounds which could have gone either way.

I’m grateful that I was going to get dropped that I was able to get back up and fight. I came here to fight and I was able to go 12 rounds. I could have kept going. I took a year off, and the motivation of losing my title got me going.”
