Live in Primetime on Premier Boxing Champions on FOX & FOX Deportes from Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas on
Saturday, February 17 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT
EL PASO, TX (January 8, 2018) – “Vicious” Victor Ortiz and Devon Alexander “The Great”headline a show topped by two USA vs. Mexico battles as the former welterweight champions meet in the 12-round main event of Premier Boxing Champions on FOX and FOX Deportes Saturday, Feb. 17 from Don Haskins Center on the UTEP campus in El Paso, Texas with televised coverage starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
In the co-main event unbeaten contender Caleb “Sweet Hands” Plant will battle Rogelio “Porky” Medina in a 12-round 168-pound world title eliminator.
Tickets for the event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions, are priced at $200, $100, $60, $40, $25 and will go on sale Friday. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster.
Also on the card, Tony Harrison (25-2, 20 KOs) takes on Jorge Cota (27-2, 24 KOs) in a super welterweight showdown and Karlos Balderas, a 2016 U.S. Olympian, will appear in a lightweight special attraction.
“This is a classic crossroads match in the truest sense. Both Devon Alexander and Victor Ortiz are battle-tested in one of the toughest, deepest divisions in boxing,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “Alexander has overcome some serious health issues and is looking to regain the welterweight championship. Ortiz, also a former champion, has always come to fight and doesn’t back down from anyone. It promises to be an entertaining match for the fans in attendance at Don Haskins Center and those who tune in on FOX and FOX Deportes.”
Ortiz (32-6-2, 25 KOs), a former 147-pound champion, has split time between boxing and acting throughout his recent career and brings a certain flare every time he steps into the ring. The 30-year-old native of Garden City, Kansas who now lives in Ventura, California, has faced some of the top names in the 147-pound division during his career.
Ortiz won the welterweight title with unanimous decision victory over Andre Berto on April 16, 2011. Five months later he lost the title to Floyd Mayweather, Jr. by knockout. Ortiz, 30, suffered a knockout loss to Andre Berto in 2016 on FOX and bounced back with a knockout victory over Saul Corral in his last fight on July 30 on FS1.
“I’m ready to give all I have to defeat Devon Alexander and get my crown back,” said Ortiz. “My priority is to make a strong comeback and putting myself in a position to have my straps once again. I demonstrated what I was made of and did what I said I was going to do in my last fight. I’m facing a great fighter in Devon Alexander and someone I’ve known since we were kids. I don’t hate him, but I will not be his friend on fight night and he won’t be mine. I’m ready to prove everyone wrong starting on Feb. 17.”
Alexander (27-4, 14 KOs) emerged on the scene with a unanimous decision victory over Randall Bailey for the welterweight title in 2012. He defended the title once before losing it to Shawn Porter in 2013. Since then, the 30-year-old Alexander of St. Louis, Missouri has been on a mission to regain the title. After losing to Amir Khan and Aaron Martinez, Alexander suffered another setback when he sought treatment for an addiction to painkillers. Fully healthy for the first time in three years, Alexander returned to the ring with a unanimous decision victory over Walter Castillo on FS1 on Nov. 21.
“I’m excited to get back in there against a fighter like Victor Ortiz,” said Alexander. “We’ve known each other a long time but never fought in the amateurs, so this should be interesting. My speed, quickness and smarts will win me this fight. Victor checks out sometimes when he can’t hit you, so my skills will be the difference. I’m ready for any challenge that’s brought my way. When I’m 100 percent, nobody can beat me.”
Plant (16-0, 10 KOs) won eight of his first nine fights by knockout, demonstrating power in both hands to go along with his boxing abilities. The 25-year-old climbed into the top ten of the 168-pound rankings with his last victory – a unanimous decision over Andrew Hernandez in Las Vegas on Sept. 8. Medina represents a major step up for Plant and will give him an indication of just where the Ashland, Tennessee native stands in the division as he looks to become a mandatory challenger for the IBF title.
The 29-year-old Medina (38-8, 32 KOs) has squared off against some of the toughest boxers in the division, including current champion David Benavidez and former champions James DeGale and Badou Jack. Fighting out of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico lost by knockout to Benavidez on May 20, and bounced back with a knockout victory over Daniel Eduardo Yocupicio on Sept. 1.
The FOX prime time broadcast will kick off a full night of boxing, leading into a doubleheader on SHOWTIME that features two-division world champion Danny Garcia versus Brandon Rios and 168-pound champion David Benavidez defending his title in a rematch against Ronald Gavril from Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS, NV (September 5, 2017)
– Unbeaten middleweight contender, Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (15-0, 10 KOs) is just a few days away from making his SHOWTIME debut this Friday at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Plant will face late
opponent, Andrew Hernandez (19-6-1, 9 KOs) in a ten-round bout.  Tune in this Friday on
SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT).

With just a few days away from the fight, Plant gives is thoughts on facing Hernandez, training, and more, as he wraps up the final days of camp.

On his matchup with late opponent Andrew Hernandez…

“To be honest, it doesn’t matter who they put in front of me, I’ll fight anyone.  I was originally supposed to fight Alan Campa, but he pulled out, like most of my opponents.  Hernandez recently
fought so I know he’s in good shape.  I’m happy that he stepped up, but I’m going to put tips on him.  There’s no two ways about it, I’m coming out on top.”

On his recent training camp…

“Training camp has been unbelievable.  It’s no doubt, one of my best training camps ever.  My weight is perfect and I couldn’t be happier with the way I’ve been looking in the gym.  My trainer
Justin Gamber is doing a phenomenal job, as well as my dad Richie.  Larry Wade, my strength and conditioning coach, has got me in tip top shape.  We are going to dictate our game plan on Hernandez, and try to get him out of there before the final bell.  If
it goes the distance, I’ll be ready.”

On making his Showtime debut…

“I’m very excited to be making my debut on Showtime.  This is the first of many as I believe I can become a household name on their network.  Showtime is looking for their next star and I believe
it’s me.  I’m going to put on a spectacular performance.  Everyone watching can expect to see a very skilled and determined fighter when they see me fight this Friday night.”

On fighting in his new hometown of Las Vegas…

“This will be my third time fighting in Las Vegas, the mecca of boxing, and I want to stamp my legacy here.  Since moving here from Nashville about a year ago, I’ve been getting some great
work with some top-level fighters.  Nashville will always be home, but Vegas is where I’m at right now.  I have a lot of new fans out here and I can’t wait to put on a great show for them.”

On what a victory will do for his career…

“A win this Friday will get me one step closer to a world title shot.  I’m currently ranked WBA #7 and #11 by the IBF.  I’m right there knocking on the door.  David Benavidez
is fighting for the WBC title in the main event, and he’s definitely someone I want to fight.  J’Leon Love, who’s world ranked, is also on the card.  Both are on my radar. I’m want all the champions in my division.  I’m going to be a world champion when I
get my opportunity

Video: Caleb Plant (15-0, 10 KOs) Talks About Fighting Everyone in the Super Middleweight Division

CALEB “SWEET HANDS” PLANT
Press Release For Immediate Release

LAS VEGAS, NV (July 27, 2017) – Undefeated IBF #11 super-middleweight contender,
Caleb “Sweet Hands” Plant (15-0, 10 KOs), is eager to get back in the ring. In this video, Plant speaks on facing everyone in the 168 lbs. division.

Snippets On Arguably The Hottest Topics In The Sweet Science This Week

Sweet Home Ala…. BAM

Deontay Wilder ( 38-0 37 KO) stopped Gerald Washington (18-1-1 12 KO ) in the fifth round with a big right hand to successfully defend his WBC title. Wilder didn’t look great prior to the knockout and a little amateurish at times. He is still a bit raw but as long as he has the one-punch KO power he’ll continue to refine the other areas through on the job training. In his defense, this was his first fight after an almost eight month lay off due to bicep and hand injuries sustained in the Chris Arreola fight.

In the Bermane Stiverne fight when he won the title, Wilder looked like he had figured it all out. He boxed beautifully and landed his power in spots. He showed that he didn’t need to rely on only his power to be successful; however, in every fight since, there have only been glimpses of that Bronze Bomber.

After the fight, the talk was a matchup with WBO titlest Joseph Parker (22-0 18 KO); however breaking news is a rumoured WBC mandated rematch with Stiverne.

The wish here is a matchup with Luis Ortiz (27-0 23 KO) and/or the Anthony Joshua Wladimir Klitschko winner.

Unsustained Effort

Back in 2015, Tony Harrison, rising undefeated prospect, was handily out-pointing Willie Nelson through eight rounds but got caught and stopped in the ninth round. Going into Saturday’s fight with Jarrett Hurd, Harrison had won three straight, two by stoppage, including an impressive victory over hard punching Fernando Guerrero.

Through the first eight rounds, Harrison (24-2 20 KO) exhibited a nice skill set on Saturday night. Early on, Harrison was doing all of the things that you’d want him to do, good lateral movement, an active jab, and combination punching; however, it would again be his defense that would be his demise.

Harrison was controlling most of the first eight rounds but Hurd (20-0 14 KO) slowly started to impose his will. If was almost as if Hurd conceded the rounds to Harrison and chose to look for one perfect counter, which he found in round nine.

As he had done in 2015, Harrison failed to sustain his effort throughout the fight.

Hurd captured the vacant IBF World Super Welterweight belt with the victory.

Lobby Rumble

Later after the fight, Wilder goes after Heavyweight Dominic Breazeale because Breazeale had an altercation with Wilder’s brother. Wilder and his camp were alleged by the Breazeale camp to have “sucker punched” Breazeale and his coach in front of his wife and kids.

Both Wilder and Breazeale took to social media with their version of the events regarding the ordeal.

Breazeale was on the Wilder undercard stopping heavyweight prospect Izu Ugonoh in the fifth after coming off the canvas in the fourth.

Save it for the ring gents.

Hold Off Judgement, It May Be Good

It has been announced that Manny Pacquiao (59-6-2 38 KO) and Amir Khan (31-4 19 KO) will knuckleup in April. There was a lot of grumbling after the announcement but this is actually an intriguing matchup.

Sweet Hands

Caleb Plant (15-0 10 KO) a top prospect in the Supper Middles dominated veteran/journeyman/gatekeeper Thomas Awinbono. Plant dropped Awinbono in the first and cruised the rest of the way. We’ve been following Plant and he seems to improve each fight. Smart matchmaking by his team, they are bringing him along at a great pace. His competition gets a bit tougher while he tightens up his game. From Tennessee, Planr recently relocated to Las Vegas to focus on his craft.

Fight Week

Danny Garcia v. Keith Thurman- Sneak Peak coming soon.

David Haye (28-2 26 KO) v. Tony Bellew (28-2 18 KO)  Does the natural cruiser stand a chance here? Does Haye have memories of being dropped to a knee by him in traning years ago as sparring partners?  Is it the power of Haye that will end things in brutal fashion or is it the boxing and speed of Bellew that can make things interesting?

Bellew was in a Rocky movie….maybe life imitates art??

We’ll find out on Saturday at the O2.

BETHLEHEM, PA. (August 23, 2016) – Undefeated
Caleb “Sweet Hands” Plant (14-0, 10 KOs) dropped and dominated Colombia’s
Juan De Angel (18-5-1, 17 KOs) on his way to a unanimous decision victory Tuesday night in the main event of
Premier Boxing Champions TOE-TO-TOE TUESDAYS on FS1 and BOXEO DE CAMPEONES on FOX Deportes from Sands Bethlehem Events Center in Bethlehem, Pa.
The Nashville-native was able to keep his perfect record intact and was in control from start to finish of his first 10-round bout. Plant was patient in the early rounds, looking to find the distance against his power-punching opponent.

Plant’s offense began to break through in round three and in round four he caught De Angel lingering in the pocket and dropped him with a left hook. De Angel got to his feet but was never able to get his own offense going and spent much of the night
trying to tie up the more aggressive Plant.

In the ninth round, a clash of heads caused a temporary halt in the action and saw Plant emerge with a cut on his head. Plant was able to battle through and and kept his momentum going throughout the remainder of the fight.

Plant was twice as accurate as De Angel and landed 30 percent of his punches compared to 15 percent from De Angel. The judges saw the bout the same and all scored it 100-89 after 10-rounds of super middleweight action.

The co-main event of the night saw a pair of Washington, D.C. welterweights do battle as
David Grayton (15-1, 11 KOs) earned a victory over previously unbeaten
Kareem Martin (8-1-1, 3 KOs) via a stoppage in the eighth and final round.

The southpaw Grayton pressed forward early and often, looking to disrupt Martin and keep him uncomfortable. Martin was sharp early on, especially with right hand counters. He was the more accurate fighter over the first three rounds, but the experience
of Grayton began to take over.

As the fight went on, Grayton’s attack gained effectiveness and Martin appeared to wear down from the constant pace. Grayton out threw Martin 537 to 308 and landed 172 punches to Martin’s 106.

Grayton took control of the fight in the sixth round, hurting Martin early with a blistering body attack and rocked him late in the round with crisp uppercuts. By round eight, Martin had faded and Grayton sensed his moment. A left hand to the body
dropped Martin early, and while he beat the count, Grayton quickly pounced and delivered a flurry that caused referee Benjy Esteves Jr. to stop the fight 41 seconds into the round.

Two-time Ecuadorian Olympian Carlos Gongora (6-0, 5 KOs)started the telecast off with an impressive first round stoppage of previously unbeaten Ronald Mixon (7-1, 6 KOs) in their light heavyweight clash.

Gongora wasted little time, feinting a right hook and following with a thudding overhand left that put Mixon on the mat immediately. The knockdown prompted referee Gary Rosato to wave off the count and stop the bout 1:16 into the first round.

Here is what the fighters had to say Tuesday:

CALEB PLANT

“It’s another win in the bag. I had bounce in my legs for all 10 rounds. I was taking my time in there and I feel like I’m getting better each fight.

“I’ll fight whoever my team has lined up for me. It feels great to win as a headliner. We’re going to get right back in the gym and get ready for another fight.”

JUAN DE ANGEL

“I felt the size difference in the ring. I trained for a southpaw and he came out righty. That caught me off guard. He was better tonight.”

DAVID GRAYTON

“I was very motivated to perform well coming off of my loss. I wanted it more tonight and I wanted to make a statement to get back to where I belong.

“I knew I had him hurt late in the fight and I kept hitting him with left hands. I stepped it up and got him out of there.

“I’m going to go back to the gym and train hard and wait for my next fight.”

KAREEM MARTIN

“I lost a little focus and he caught me with a good shot that led to the stoppage.

“It was a good back and forth fight. We were both getting a lot of shots in. I just need to come back with more focus next time.”

CARLOS GONGORA

“I was prepared and I analyzed his style and how he would fight. I knew I just had to connect with the right punch.

“I want to dedicate this victory to my family and my whole country. It was a pleasure to do it on FS1 and FOX Deportes.

“I am going straight to the top and I appreciate this opportunity to show the world who I am.”

Plant gave a training camp update and talked about his upcoming bout and more:

On fighting in his first 10-round main event on FS1…

“This is a big opportunity for me to show the fans that I have arrived.  FS1 is seen by millions around the word and I’m ready to make a statement to a national audience.  I’ve been working hard to get to this point and I’m going to shine.”

On his matchup with Juan De Angel...

“Like all fights at this level, it’s going to be a tough fight.  I’m expecting to see a hungry fighter who has nothing to lose.  I myself have everything to lose so I’m going to make sure I’m at my best when we step in the ring. De Angel has held
some regional belts so I know he has some tricks up his sleeve.  One thing I will do is dictate the pace.”

On the landscape of the middleweight division…

“The middleweight division has plenty of talent.  Gennady Golovkin has a stranglehold on the division at the moment but I’m gunning for him and anyone else that’s in my way.  First I have to get past this fight and then continue my march toward that
world title.”

On his recent training camp…

“My team and I have been working extremely hard.  I’ve got all the right people in my corner helping me get to the top.  I’m sparring with some really good fighters.  I’ve taken my conditioning to new levels.  My body is fresh and I’m amped up for
this fight.”

On his quest to become the first world champion to come out of Nashville, TN…

“To become the first world champion to come out of Tennessee would be incredible.  I know I have a lot of hard work that needs to be done but I’m ready for the difficult challenge.  Nashville needs a boxing champion and I know in my heart that it
will happen.  I’m just taking it one fight at a time.”

Undefeated Middleweight Caleb Plant Returns To The Ring June 3 PBC on Spike TV

Press Release For Immediate Release

NASHVILLE, TN) May 24, 2016 – Nashville’s unbeaten middleweight prospect, Caleb “Sweet Hands” Plant (12-0, 9 KOs) is scheduled to return to the ring on June 3, 2016 against Colombia’s Carlos Galvan (12-4-1, 2 KOs).  The scheduled 8-round bout will be televised on the undercard of Barthelemy vs. Bey at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida as Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Spike TV goes live at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

In his last bout on January, 22 of this year, Plant dominated his opponent, winning by way of a 6th-round TKO.  He’ll look to continue his winning ways on June, 3rd.

“I’m always looking to get better with each fight,” said Caleb Plant. “Every fight brings on a different challenge and I’m ready for any style that comes my way.  Galvan has a lot of knockouts so I have to be aware of his power shots.  I will control the action from the opening bell and make my adjustment as the fight goes on.  If I get him hurt, I’m going for the knockout.”

After turning pro in May of 2014, Caleb has rapidly made his presences felt in the middleweight division by winning all twelve of his bout, nine of which came by way of knockout.  Plant feels grateful about his career as it is headlining in the right direction.

“To be in the position I am this early in my career is a blessing.” Plant continued. “My management team and trainers are doing a fantastic job with everything and I couldn’t be any happier.  I know fighting on television is very important for my fan base, so I want to come out and put on a great show.  This will be my first time fighting on Spike TV and I want to leave a lasting impression.  Expect to see some fireworks.”

CALEB “SWEET HANDS” PLANT REMAINS UNDEFEATED WITH UNANIMOUS DECISION

Press Release   For Immediate Release

HOUSTON, TX (November 2, 2015) – This past Saturday at the NRG Arena in Houston, Texas, middleweight prospect, Caleb “Sweet-Hands” Plant (11-0, 8 KOs), remained undefeated, winning by way of a unanimous decision against his toughest opponent to date in Tyrone Brunson (22-6, 21 KOs).

In the early rounds Plant used an educated jab to offset the power punches that Brunson was trying to land.  As the fight went on, Caleb continued to apply pressure with the jab and started to land his overhand right.  Brunson, who was backing up most of the fight, had no answer to the technical boxing skills that Plant was displaying.  Caleb showed elusive defense throughout the fight when Brunson, who had a reach advantage, tried to land his combinations. Plant, who dominated in punches landed, won by an impressive unanimous decision.  Scorecards read 79-73 twice and 78-74.

With the victory, Plant is on the fast track to becoming a household name in the middleweight division.  As 2015 approaches the end, Caleb feels he’s right on pace to accomplish his goal of becoming a world champion.

“Everything is going as planned and I felt I showed a lot of maturity against Brunson,” said Tennessee native Caleb Plant. “Every fight is getting me ready for the next level.  As I step up in competition, I see myself going the distance more often.  It’s a good thing because you never want to rely on your power to win fights.  Although most of my wins have come by knockout, I’m more confident in my ability to box my way to a victory if I have to.  With another year or so under my belt, I’ll feel I’ll be ready to challenge anyone in the middleweight division.”

Plant vs. Brunson was televised as part of Premier Boxing Champions (PBC)NBCSN and promoted by Leija*Battah Promotions.

NASHVILLE, TN (October 22, 2015) – Unconquered super-middleweight prospect, Caleb “Sweet-Hands” Plant (10-0, 8 KOs), returns to the ring October, 31, 2015against an opponent TBA at the NRG Arena in Houston, Texas.  The card is headlined by Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (26-0, 11 KOs) vs. Joachim Alcine (35-7-2, 21 KOs) as Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on NBCSN will telecast the live event beginning at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT. Plant’s fight will serve as the swing bout for the televised portion of the PBC broadcast.

In his last outing, Plant went 8-rounds for the first time in his career, winning a lopsided unanimous decision against Jamar Freeman.   Known for having power in both hands, Caleb was able to drop Freeman in the third round before cursing to victory.  Plant’s mindset coming into this fight is to end the fight with a knockout.

“This will be my sixth time fighting this year and I’m learning more about myself with each fight,” said Caleb Plant. “Going the distance in my last fight was something new to me but I proved I can into the later rounds if I have to.  To be honest though, nothing feels better than getting the knockout.  In this fight I’m going to be more aggressive and let my punches go.  Nothing reckless, but heavy bombs will be thrown.  A knockout is what I’ll be seeking before the final bell rings.”
